What are the Pros and Cons of Wood Phone Case?

What are the Pros and Cons of Wood Case?

My most exciting acquisition after buying a new is deciding on a case. For me, the answer is obvious, and that&#;s because I make my own Koa wood cases. For anyone else, however, what to get, may require more consideration. For that reason, I wrote this article with the intent of answering the question, &#;What are the pros and cons of wood cases?"

You will get efficient and thoughtful service from Sinco.

The pros and cons of wood cases fall under one major advantage and one disadvantage; look vs. price. The primary benefit of wooden cases is aesthetics. Mother Nature is by far the best designer. However, the cost of unique and one of kind usually comes at a higher cost.

Having owned a Koa Wood case for many years&#;and the fact that I make wooden cases for our retail shop, I have a few things I can share that will help you consider the pluses and the minuses of owning a wood case.

Pros

  • Aesthetics

Organic design is unique and one of kind. No two wood grain patterns are the same. Unlike mass-produced plastic and alternative cases, wooden cases are made from a slice of a tree that is unmatched by another part of that tree. Like a fingerprint, the natural properties and configuration aren&#;t duplicated. Therefore, no one can own a wooden case like the one that you&#;ve chosen to own.

  • Worn Wood Looks Good

What I love most about my case is that I don&#;t worry about scratches or dents. In fact, if and when they occur I appreciate the even more because it adds character in a way that no synthetic made case can. If you scratch, crack, or chip a plastic cover the damage is obvious. However, wood, when it has aged it looks antique. This is consistent with most organic materials like leather. It holds its aesthetic value.

  • Conversation Piece

I&#;ve never had a case more talked about than my Koa Wood case. Whether I lay it down at the table during dinner or pull it out to check my newsfeed, people who see it for the first time always comment on it. Words like &#;beautiful&#; and &#;cool,&#; proceed questions like  &#;Where did you get that from?,&#; and &#;How is it made?&#; For which I take delight in mentioning that I made it.

Koa wood that is sustainably harvested from the Big Island is sent to Japan where it is expertly cut into thin veneers. These veneers are backed with a thick paper to hold the integrity of the wood together, so you don&#;t have tears or warping of the wood. These veneers are cut to shape and laser etched with custom designs before they then adhere to the back of the cover shell. The photo on the right is an example of both the veneer and case shell.

  • Sustainability - Eco-Friendly

Nowadays more and more of us are making decisions that align with the best interest of our environment. The great thing about purchasing a wood case is that the material is regenerative. Therefore, it replaces, in part, the need to commercially manufacture inks and synthetic materials. In addition, if you may find that some of the producers and retailers of wood products often have a give-back component to the purchase of their wood products. Here at the KoaWood Ranch proceeds from the sales of our wood products go right back into the forest conservation efforts. It helps pay for planting, invasive plant species eradication, and protection. Our forest thrives because of customers like you.

  • Comfort and Easy to Handle

What I like about my cover is that it is slim and slides perfectly into my pockets. This is important, some other covers have a grip surface on the outside of the cover which causes friction with the fabric of my pockets. This makes it frustrating to easily access the if it is ringing or I get a text. The wood and shell I use perfectly work together to ensure I can hold it with comfort so that it doesn&#;t fall out of my hands, however, there&#;s no friction sliding it into my pocket.

  • Customizable

Personalization is not typically available for commodity  cases. But because some wooden cases are made using laser cutting technology, some makers can offer a variety of different designs. In some instances, they can custom make the design as well. The photo on the right is an example of a custom design I made for a co-worker with a fondness for this Japanese character in a Kimono.

  • Connection to Real World

We are surrounded by a manufactured world. As I type on the keyboard I&#;m having a virtual experience looking at a screen, the clothes I feel on my body are made with lycra and synthetics, I hear in the distance my electronic Roomba sweeping the floor. I appreciate the modern world as much as anybody else. In fact, I couldn&#;t be writing this article if not for the cell the need for its cover. But with all that said, I also like being reminded of what only mother nature can create. It keeps me connected and grounded to what really feeds my soul - nature.

Cons

  • Expensive

Perhaps the biggest resistance to purchasing a wood case is the price. cases average between $15 and $45. Cheap commodity cases lie on the lower end of the scale and wooden cases around the $35-$45 range, even more for inlays or custom laser engraving.

Unlike high production made covers (with molds and repeatable designs), wood covers require more labor. The wood has to be sourced, milled, laser cut (or CNC) and etched before they are manually assembled. The additional labor raises the production cost. In addition, some makers like myself only produce small batches adding to the complexity of production.

Given the quality and value of a truly unique art piece, most if not all wooden case owners will tell you the cost was worth every penny.

  • Susceptible to Moisture and Sun Damage

Most things organic are susceptible to decay. Wood is particularly sensitive to water, moisture, and direct sunlight. Although most wood cases are protected with some kind of sealant, be it lacquer or wax, the sealant can break down in the presence of moisture or direct sunlight. This can cause warping, and/or the undoing of any adhesives. Protecting your case from the elements is key to ensuring that it lasts for a long time. For more information and tips on how you can care for your cover read Are Wooden Cases Durable?

  • Susceptible to Dents and Scratches

Woods come in varying hardnesses. But regardless of what type of wood, it will be susceptible to both dents and scratches. However, what at first glance is perceived as a &#;con&#; can actually be perceived as a benefit if you appreciate the fact that wood that is worn has a warm antique feel. Personally, I&#;ve had my wood cover for many years and it&#;s had its share of falls, drops, and sun exposure. Nonetheless, I appreciate its unique character. I think it looks cool.

There are more &#;pros&#; than &#;cons&#;

Although affordability will play a big factor when choosing the right cover for you, there&#;s a good case (no pun intended) to make in favor of getting a wooden case and paying the premium. When evaluating the benefits vs. hindrances, it&#;s clear to me that wooden cases provide a proposition that no other option offers; beauty, originality, and an unmatched eco component.

Technology meets design: Everything about printing ...

Cell cases have become one of the most important accessories in everyday life. They protect our valuable cell phones from damage and provide a personalized look. Custom printed cell cases have gained a lot of popularity in recent years. Whether as gifts for friends and family or as promotional items for businesses, printed cell cases are a creative way to personalize your smartphone and leave a lasting impression. In this article, we will look at the technologies used in printing cell cases, as well as the different application areas and customer segments. We will also discuss best practices and future prospects to provide a comprehensive overview.

Printing techniques for cell case design

There are several printing techniques available to
  1. Digital printing Digital printing is the most commonly used process for printing cell cases. In this process, the motif is printed directly onto the surface of the cell case. Digital printing is very flexible and is suitable for short runs as well as for printing photos and complex motifs. The print quality is very high and fine details can be reproduced. The disadvantage of digital printing is that it is slightly more expensive than other processes and the colors are not as strong as in other processes.
  2. Screen Printing Screen printing is a traditional printing process that can also be used for printing cell cases. In this process, the design is printed on a screen and then transferred to the cell case. Screen printing is very affordable when it comes to long runs, and the colors are very vibrant and long lasting. The disadvantage of screen printing is that it is only suitable for simple motifs and it cannot reproduce as fine details as digital printing. For this reason we do not offer screen printing.
  3. Sublimation printing Sublimation printing is a combination of digital printing and transfer paper. The motif is first printed on transfer paper and then transferred to the cell cover. Sublimation printing is very flexible and is suitable for short runs as well as for printing photos and complex motifs. The colors are very strong and durable. The disadvantage of transfer printing is that it is slightly more expensive than screen printing and it cannot reproduce as fine details as digital printing.
  4. Laser engraving This is a popular printing alternative for personalising mobile cases. This technique uses a laser beam to engrave the design onto the cover. Unlike other methods, such as screen printing or digital printing, laser engraving creates a permanent engraving. The engraving is scratch-resistant and waterproof and therefore retains its quality for a very long time. Laser engraving allows individual designs, texts or logos to be applied to the mobile cover, which makes unique personalisation possible.
When choosing materials for printable cases, there are many options, including silicone, plastic, and PU leather. It is important that the material has a smooth surface and is suitable for the chosen printing process. Another factor in choosing materials is the durability of the material and how long the printed design will last on the case. When designing our cell and tablet cases, we paid special attention to the durability of the case and imprint.

Print quality and color brilliance

The quality of printing is a major factor in your satisfaction. There are several influencing factors that can affect the print quality.
  1. Factors influencing print quality: print quality can be influenced by the resolution of the printer, the type of printing process and the colors used. The resolution of the printer determines the number of pixels that can be printed per inch. The higher the resolution, the more detailed the printed result. When it comes to the printing process, the type of pre-treatment used for the cell case and the type of printing process play a role.
  2. Color management and color correction: Color management and color correction also play an important role in print quality. This involves transferring the colors on the screen or template to the cell cover as accurately as possible. To do this, the colors must be calibrated and adjusted so that the print result meets expectations.
  3. Color brilliance through UV printing: One process that delivers particularly good results in terms of color brilliance is UV printing. Here, the colors are applied to the cell cover using UV light. Exposure to UV light causes the ink to harden quickly and form a resistant layer. This results in a particularly high color brilliance and a long durability of the print.

Design customization and personalization

The ability to customize cell cases is a major advantage of the printing process. Here are some important aspects of design customization and personalization:
  1. Customization for different case models: There are a variety of case models on the market, which differ in size, shape and material. To make sure the design fits perfectly on the case, the artwork needs to be customized to the specific model. We offer both a live product configurator on our website and print sketches that are perfectly matched to the specific model.
  2. Customization with names, logos, images or quotes: The ability to add a personal touch to a cell case is what makes cell case printing so attractive. A name, logo or quote can make a case unique and set it apart from other cases.

Production Process

This section is about the production process of custom printed cell cases. Here we will show the different steps that are necessary to produce a printed cell case.
  1. Preparation for printing: First, the customer&#;s design is prepared by bringing it to the right size and format. During this process, it is also checked whether the design meets the requirements of the printing technology.
  2. Printing: The printable material is loaded into the printing machine and the design is printed on the cover. Depending on the printing process, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.
  3. Drying: After printing, the sleeve must dry to ensure that the colors and design adhere completely to the sleeve.
  4. Quality control: After drying, each individual sleeve is checked for quality. This includes checking that the design has been printed correctly on the sleeve and that the colors have the desired brilliance.
  5. Packaging: After the cases have been checked and found to be good, they are carefully packed and made ready for shipping.
  6. Shipping: The printed cell cases are shipped to the customer and can now be used or sold.
Automated processes and machines have greatly improved the efficiency of the production process in recent years. As a result, we can produce the cases faster and in larger quantities. Our quality assurance is also supported by automated processes, as automatic camera systems, for example, monitor the quality of the print and can detect errors immediately. Careful packaging and shipping ensure that the printed cell cases reach you undamaged and in perfect condition.

Areas of application and customer segments

Possible application areas for custom printed cell cases are diverse and range from use as promotional items in the B2B sector to customization of gifts in the B2C sector.
  1. B2B applications: In B2B applications, printed cell cases can be used as promotional products to enhance a company&#;s image. Companies can have their logos or slogans printed on cell cases and distributed as gifts to customers or employees. Customized cell cases can also help strengthen corporate identity as employee gifts.
  2. B2C applications: In the B2C sector, printed cell cases can be used as customized gifts for friends and family. Cell cases can also be printed with logos and images of well-known brands or stars as merchandising products. In addition, cell cases can serve as a personal expression of one&#;s style and personality.
  3. Target groups and customer needs: The target groups for custom printed cell cases are very broad. From young people who see their cell phones as an expression of their lifestyle to business people who use their cell phones as work tools. Customers value high print quality and color brilliance, as well as the ability to customize the design to their individual preferences.

Best Practices

Below are some best practices to consider when designing custom printed cell cases:
  1. Consider the cover material: It is important to consider the material of the cover before you start designing. Some materials, such as plastics or polycarbonate, can produce different printing results. It is also important to make sure that the design fits properly on the material to achieve a high-quality result.
  2. Use templates and tools: We offer free templates or online tools in advance that you can use to create your own design. These templates help to match the design to the dimensions of the cover and get a better idea of how the final product will look.
  3. Pay attention to resolution: make sure the resolution of the design is high enough to ensure sharp and clear print quality. Low resolution can result in a pixelated or blurry print. If there is potential for problems here, we will let you know early.
  4. Choose the right printing process: There are different printing processes such as screen printing, digital printing, or sublimation printing. Each process has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, screen printing is ideal for long runs, while digital printing can be a faster and more cost-effective option for shorter runs.
  5. Quality Assurance and Customer Service: Careful quality control is an important part of the production process. It is also important to us to provide you with excellent customer service and to respond to your questions quickly and comprehensively.

In summary

Overall, custom printed cell cases offer a variety of benefits and uses. In addition to protecting the device, they can also be used as promotional items or personalized gifts. Choosing the appropriate printing process, customizing the design, and checking the print quality are crucial for a high-quality result.
