The truth about roots blower? - Don Terrill's Speed-Talk

You will get efficient and thoughtful service from Benyuan.

Since just about everyone here in Brazil is stuffing a GMC blower on their V8 engines, I'm trying to resist the temptation. This is why:

Based on the cost, the added weight and rotational mass of the blower, I'll go with a stroked SBC N/A. But I'll admit I luv the blower looks.

But the most important to me is make the Z28 go fast. So I figured that the majority of the USA build ups are N/A for power ranges from 500 to 700 hp.

These power ranges would be easier to achieve with a blower or nitrous, but the majority of V8s still are hot N/A setups, as I see.

We know the blower is a torque builder, so the question is, how can a 600hp SBC N/A compare to 700hp blower small block, keeping in mind the N/a Car might be 120lbs lighter, have about 30lbs less parasitic rotational mass on the engine and nothing to eat up hp to compress the air.

Then this topic is to you Speedtalkers comment why go for the blower and why not . "Scientific" or "learned over the years" opinions are very welcome.

Thanks for replies!

440: Best roots style blower

Mert Littlefield Blowers
Don', Hampton Blowers
BDS
The Blower Shop, when Al Hoffman was alive
(IIRC) at the time they were the only people still
(Now a few do, INDY is one)
making a blower manifold, with a pop-off valve for a RB/B engines
'not the burst plates'
(if you ever run it in the cold you will wish you had one)
But all the above have or had great blowers/roots style
may different rotor angles & sizes etc.

most all of the org. founders are no longer with us
either family or another ownership completely etc. now

I used to use a shitload of Mert Littlefield blowers (top-notch)
they were in SoCal too, so my shipping
or my ability to go down & pick stuff up was way easier, & cheaper
over the years, 6:71-8:71 to 10:71-14:71,
from 10% undriven to 50% overdriven in either 8mm or 3"
they ain't cheap, don't even attempt to bargain shop there
mostly for racing, Methanol (or Nitro) 'lots of boost',
not much streetcar wise, take a lot of power to spin them
hard anodized cases & timed/hardened gears, Hi-helix rotors &/or Teflon strips,
better billet materials
but it was/still is the quality stuff

good Luck
