If you're on the hunt for customized patches but unsure which type to select, we have a guide to help you distinguish between the two most popular types and pick what suits you best.

You’re Going to Learn

  • The difference between embroidery and soft rubber patches
  • The use of both in clothing brands or personal use
  • A comparison to help you choose the right patch
  • Where to purchase these patches

Patches are an all-time favorite due to their versatility. Whether it's a simple fabric like a backer, terry, or regular thread of rayon or candle, patches fit perfectly into the promotional industry in the United States, which is worth around $20 billion per year.

However, choosing the right patch isn't the same as buying a piece of cloth to patch your jeans from Amazon or any other eCommerce store. It's about custom-made patches, primarily categorized into two major types:

  1. Embroidery badges
  2. Rubber-made or PVC patches

Embroidery patches are generally more common than PVC patches. Let's dive into the details to understand why and where each type is best used.

Stitched Patches/Embroidered

Embroidery patches find applications in a broader range of products compared to PVC. Embroidery professionals and screen printers make substantial revenue by producing thread-made emblems for various items including:

  • Hats
  • Jerseys
  • Jackets
  • Biker Vests
  • Letterman Jackets
  • Bomber jackets
  • Hoodies
  • Sweaters
  • Regular Shirts & Tees
  • Polos

PVC customized labels, on the other hand, are used in fewer applications compared to woven ones.

PVC Labels

PVC patches offer a smoother and more durable alternative to embroidered patches. In the vast promotional products market, which includes machining for both embroidery and rubber-made patches, PVC patches make up approximately 10% of the custom patches industry. PVC patches have their unique advantages; they are:

  • Strong
  • Water-resistant
  • Luminous
  • Transparent

The transparency of solid PVC labels makes them more visible and detailed compared to stitched patches. They are primarily used for:

  • Security
  • Tactical operations
  • Uniforms
  • Morale boosting

Cost-Effectiveness

In terms of cost, embroidered patches are generally more affordable. The local industry competition and overseas manufacturers from regions like Asia and Africa offer competitive pricing.

We provide a fair price range with generous discounts for large orders of embroidery badges. Instant quotes and free mock-ups are available through our request form.

How Much Do Custom PVC Patches Cost?

2D PVC patches, which include machining work for CNC and costly materials for custom designs, typically cost more than embroidered patches. Going for 3D designs can really drive up the price, with some patches costing around $12 each for minimum orders of 25 units.

Our minimum charge is $8 per patch for 25 pieces MOQ, with no additional charge for molds and only a 30% down payment required. Even the cheapest manufacturers, including those in China, do not offer this deal.

Custom spirit patches that allow you to change components and make a standout custom patch offer a great value, generally costing less than other options. How amazing is that!

Pricing Plan

We offer standard pricing for PVC rubber sampling. Keep in mind, new customers get a 10% Off on their first order with us.

HOW IT WORKS: Creating a PVC patch requires a CNC engraved mold, which is an expensive process. While we do not offer 100% no-cost sampling, we provide a 50% discount for sample patches. This is useful if you want to see what your logo will look like on the patch.

  • Up to 3 inches 2D PVC patch – $175 (25 units MOQ – including shipping)
  • Up to 3 inches 3D PVC patch – $300 (25 units MOQ – including shipping)

The setup cost is fully refundable if you're not satisfied with the final product.

BENEFITS: The primary advantage of having your design molded is the reduced cost for reorders. Once you have a mold of your monogram, reordering becomes free. We keep the mold of your monogram safe, and additional pieces of PVC customized rubber-made monograms will cost you less than $3 each (excluding shipping).
