Melting Crucibles - from MIFCO

CRUCIBLES AND CRUCIBLE BASE BLOCKS

Contact us to discuss your requirements of 550mm graphite crucibles. Our experienced sales team can help you identify the options that best suit your needs.

COMPOSITION OF CRUCIBLES

Crucibles are produced primarily in two types: CLAY GRAPHITE-CERAMIC BONDED and SILICON CARBIDE CARBON BONDED. Both variants use graphite and silicon as refractory materials due to their thermal conductivity and structural fortitude. The clay graphite crucible utilizes more graphite, whereas the silicon carbide version contains more silicon carbide. Given its superior thermal conductivity and strength, the silicon carbide crucible is highly favored in industrial applications. On the other hand, the more budget-friendly clay graphite crucible is often used in educational settings where mishandling by students is common, making the investment in silicon carbide less beneficial. Both crucible types can be employed to melt metals like aluminum, brass, or grey iron, but it is crucial to avoid melting different metals in the same crucible to prevent contamination and achieve high-quality castings. Always use the correct crucible size designed for your furnace.

Crucible size indicates its aluminum melting capacity; for example, a #16 crucible holds 16 lbs of aluminum. The capacity for brass and bronze is roughly three times that of aluminum, meaning a #16 crucible accommodates 48 lbs of these metals. The crucibles and base blocks listed in our online store are typically in stock for prompt delivery. If you don't find the needed size, please contact us for a competitive quote.

Please note that our high-alumina base blocks are not suitable for brass or bronze melts. Please order a silicon carbide base block instead.

The high-purity alumina (Al2O3 content > 99%) ceramics offered by Almath are specifically engineered for high-temperature applications. Their crucibles are crafted from recrystallized alumina, featuring large grain sizes up to 200mm, which enhance resistance to thermal shock.

With minimal glassy phases, these high-purity alumina products exhibit remarkable resistance to chemical attack. Crucibles and refractory products can be purchased individually or in discounted packs of 5 or 10, with volume discounts available for larger orders.

Almath’s products serve a broad array of scientific applications, and they offer various ceramic crucible sizes and shapes, primarily made from Alumina (Aluminium Oxide) and Zirconia (Zirconium Dioxide). These materials are dense, durable, and capable of withstanding extreme temperatures up to 1800°C and 2200°C, respectively.

Please check our complete list of ceramic products to find the right shape for your needs or contact us for a custom design quote.

Despite our efforts to provide accurate product dimensions, each crucible is handcrafted, so actual sizes may vary slightly.
