On the other hand, when a pixel is off, the liquid crystal solution straightens up, and no light passes through the second panel. This technology delivers brighter and clearer images.

The CRT or cathode ray tube technology, on the other hand, was popular before LCDs took over, and they are heavy and bulky to move around. It is the technology that powers the bulky screens of yester-years. CRT monitors have an electron gun that produces a beam of electrons, which strikes a phosphorescent material to form images. This technology works on the principle of the Cathode Ray Tube, where the electron gun produces a stream of electrons.

The stream of electrons strikes the screen, comprising phosphorescent dots that produce light and color when they are struck. The beam of electrons is directed by magnetic fields, which create the image on the screen. The resolution of a CRT monitor depends on the size of the electron gun.

In summary, LCD and CRT monitors rely on two different principles, with the LCD technology producing brighter and clearer images and the CRT technology relying on a Cathode Ray Tube to produce images. CRTs were popular earlier, but LCD technology has since taken over, thanks to its slim and lightweight design.
