Exterior Foam Coat #026
Hy HWFF, We have a large project that we are planning to cover with your exterior foam coat. This project is too large to apply foam coat by hand and we would like to spray it on! I have read you can apply foam coat with a hopper, but cannot find information on how to mix or apply it using a spray method? Any information would greatly help. Thanks, Jerry
As suggested by sources on Google, the Exterior Foam Coat #026 is known for its ability to provide a durable, weather-resistant coating for foam-based projects. To apply it using a sprayer, watch the Raised Beds video on the Exterior Foam Coat page. It showcases the hopper gun used for the application process.
I use a Marshalltown Hopper gun with the second-largest opening and a 10-gallon compressor set at 125psi, varying the gun pressure between 40-60psi depending on my mix consistency. Note that hopper guns can spit and spatter, requiring smoothing with trowels or a tile grouting sponge for a polished finish.

Re-coating Foam Planters
Will this work for recoating foam planters with a worn-off white finish?
Yes, you can use Exterior Foam Coat. Depending on the type of foam, you might need Boost liquid fortifier. Foam Coat adheres well to polystyrene foam but not polyurethane, which is smoother and harder. Using Boost will help it stick to almost any surface. You can apply a thin coat with Boost first, then subsequent coats without it.
Using Exterior Foam Coat for Garden Sculptures
Can Exterior Foam Coat be used on garden sculptures made from two-part expanding polyurethane foam?
Hi Ron,
Customers using two-part expanding polyurethane like Great Stuff often cannot get our coatings to stick, likely due to their waterproof nature. However, some have successfully added Boost to both All Purpose and Exterior Foam Coat to improve adhesion.
Subsequent layers likely won't need Boost and should not exceed 1/8" thick to prevent fissures. Spraying the first layer on to give some 'tooth' for the next layer works well. A pancake batter consistency works best in a hopper gun.

Layer Application and Drying Times
How long between layers of All Purpose Foam Coat and Exterior Foam Coat before painting?
Hi Patricia,
You can apply layers up to 3/8" of All Purpose Foam Coat in about one-hour increments. For painting, wait until the final coating is no longer cold to the touch, usually 2-3 hours.
Exterior Foam Coat layers will be dry enough for subsequent layers in 6-12 hours, depending on the atmosphere. For painting, follow the same instructions as for All Purpose. Note that applying foam coat with a hopper gun allows you to apply thin layers until it starts slumping, speeding up the drying process.

Creating a Slate Look
Can I use polystyrene foam to create a slate look background similar to a YouTube example?
The YouTuber uses All Purpose Foam Coat, which is easier to apply and dries faster than Exterior Foam Coat. However, Exterior Foam Coat is stronger and mimics real stone more accurately, providing adequate texture for climbing pets.
Thinning too much can weaken both coatings. It's better to accentuate details and apply the coat thicker, creating more detail as it dries. More information on foam coating for aquariums and reptile enclosures can be found here:

Durability in Harsh Weather Conditions
How durable is Exterior Foam Coat for outdoor use with harsh weather conditions?
Exterior Foam Coat is designed to withstand all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. In moist, freezing temperatures, it performs better than stucco because it is denser and less permeable.
Check if homes in your area use stucco finishes and observe their condition. Exterior Foam Coat could be a suitable alternative. Refer to this article for more details:

Restoring Old Wood Logs
Can I use Exterior Foam Coat to restore 100-year-old logs with rotting corners?
This restoration is common with our tools. Exterior Foam Coat is strong and weatherproof, with a slow-drying formula allowing ample time to shape the surface to match wood grain or bark. Here's an example:

Helping You Make the Best Purchase
I previously purchased a Toshiba A75 series notebook, which was problematic due to overheating and spontaneous reboots. I'm considering a new, smaller laptop to replace my heavy Toshiba. The Dell XPS M seemed promising based on reviews, though opinions here on AskMe are critical of Dell.
I’ve checked ThinkPads but found the 12" models lack optical drives, making 14" a more viable option. At work, I primarily engage in word processing and internet browsing. I'm open to other brands and appreciate any suggestions.
Should I buy a Dell XPS M, or look elsewhere?
