Electric ATVs
The evolution of ATVs has transformed them into essential vehicles for hunters, anglers, and adventurous explorers. The rise of ATVs began in the early '80s, serving as a primary transportation method for outdoor enthusiasts. Since then, these 4-wheel marvels have witnessed significant technological advancements, growing larger and more powerful; however, one fact remained constant: they all operated on gasoline.
Seven Running products are globally exported, adhering to a quality-first philosophy. Our aim is to provide our customers with superior, high value-added products. Together, let's pave the way for a sustainable future.
But now, a change is on the horizon. Electric ATVs are gaining traction, largely due to increasing government policies promoting electric vehicles, improved charging infrastructure, and growing environmental awareness. According to a report by the American National Standards Institute, "the global electric ATV and UTV market accounted for $468.9 million in 2020 and is projected to soar to $4.30 billion by 2026."
It's no surprise that the ATV industry mirrored the automotive sector by introducing electric models that appeal to outdoor lovers. A select few manufacturers are stepping up to meet this growing demand.
Electric ATVs are transforming the landscape of off-roading, so now is the perfect time to embrace this green revolution!
Manufactured in Ellicottville, New York, south of Buffalo, the E-Force electric ATV is poised to revolutionize the market. This ATV is notable for being the first all-electric, non-polluting, and remarkably quiet model, making it a unique offering in the off-roading realm, providing a green alternative with several advantages over traditional gas-powered machines.
E-Force founders Bill Northrup and Philip Kurlander identified a market gap and aimed to fill it. Northrup’s father was already a pioneer in the region, having founded Holliday Valley ski resort in Ellicottville. "We recognized an opportunity to help revive a struggling manufacturing workforce with the E-Force," states Northrup, who previously led Ellicottville Energy, a sustainable energy company.
Northrup’s company employs patented green technology to produce the E-Force, yielding a powerful, rechargeable, zero-emission electric ATV. These E-Force electric ATVs are assembled in Ellicottville with components sourced from Buffalo, electric motors fabricated nearby in Syracuse, and imported frames. The E-Force Eco Electric ATV is priced at $7,195 USD.

Not to be outdone, Polaris Inc., a prominent figure in the quad market, entered the eco-friendly ATV market last year with their midsize Ranger EV. This well-known recreational vehicle manufacturer from Medina, Minnesota is quickly establishing a presence in the electric ATV/side-by-side industry. The Ranger EV is a fully electric off-road ATV/UTV, powered by a single 48-Volt, high-efficiency AC Induction motor that delivers 30 HP. In contrast to conventional fossil fuel ATVs, the Ranger EV is exceptionally clean and eco-friendly, making it perfect for hunters due to its whisper-quiet operation! It can carry a 500-pound payload and has a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds. This smooth-running green machine can travel between 35-45 miles on a full charge and recharges in just 8 hours.
Mike Speetzen, Polaris's CEO, explained that the "push for green" inspired the development of the Ranger EV. "With the rising interest in electrified vehicles, we are investing in electrification to cater to current customers while also appealing to future riders," Speetzen stated.
Polaris is not resting on past successes. The company is currently developing a full-size version of the EV, featuring an upgraded motor and enhanced battery life. According to Speetzen, "The all-new electric Ranger is our latest initiative aimed at advancing the industry in electrified powersports vehicles."
The new Ranger EV Full-size is expected to hit the market in spring 2023, designed based on customer feedback. "They’ve outlined specific needs, and our new electric full-size will meet those needs, providing an exceptionally enhanced off-road experience," he remarked.
Canadian Prototype on the Horizon
The innovative dream of the electric snowmobile comes from students at McGill University in Montreal, leading to the birth of Taiga. With support from McGill's Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship, the students won a $15,000 prize in the Dobson Cup’s innovation category, paving the way for Taiga! "The award gave us the credibility we needed for many investors," said Samual Bruneau, Taiga's owner. The company has since moved operations to Shawinigan, situated between Montreal and Quebec City, where they manufacture their all-electric snow machine, as well as the Orca, an electric personal watercraft (PWC). Keep an eye on Taiga as they work on launching a prototype electric ATV, aiming to enter the green ATV market.

Tesla Cyberquad
What about the most talked-about electric car manufacturer? Does Tesla offer ATVs? Not yet, but they are on the brink. In 2021, Tesla announced the Cyberquad electric ATV would be available as an optional accessory for its new Cybertruck. Productionis expected to commence at Tesla's Austin plant, which opened officially in spring 2022. With an estimated price of $69,900 USD for the truck alone, it will certainly be a premium addition for any potential ATV owner, unless you're considering the child-sized version of the Cyberquad, priced at $1,900 USD. This is certainly one to keep an eye on.
*Tesla's youth ATV was recently recalled due to not meeting federal safety standards.

Electric ATV Etiquette & Safety
Even when driving electric ATVs, it's crucial to practice proper etiquette. Avoid traversing sensitive wetlands or muddy areas while off-roading, and refrain from damaging trees and shrubs to clear a path. Always be considerate of other riders; if you stop on a trail, move to the side to allow passage. All riders must wear helmets, and your vehicle must be registered, plated, and insured for off-road use in Ontario.
Electric ATVs represent the future of off-roading and may eventually replace traditional gas-powered vehicles. Just imagine a serene landscape filled only with electric vehicles!
Looking forward to seeing you outdoors—now quieter and cleaner than ever!
