Dewatering Screens
To achieve effective dewatering, slurry is introduced onto a steep, downward-inclined screen surface at the feed end of the Dewatering Screen to facilitate rapid drainage. As the material accumulates on the slightly upward-inclined surface, a water pool forms in the valley. Counter-rotating vibratory motors, or mechanical exciters for larger Dewatering Screens, generate linear motion at an angle to the screen surface. This movement propels the solids upward and forward at 5 G. Along with a generous stroke length, this action moves water through the numerous openings between particles, promoting droplet formation.
The abrupt motion reversal helps detach water from the materials, allowing droplets to pass through the screen media while the solids are moved up the screen by the linear motion. The upward slope and discharge weir create a deep bed on the screen, which acts as a filter, retaining finer material than the screen openings while permitting water to pass through.
For cleaner material requirements, cross dams and spray bars can be utilized to assist in the washing process by freeing fines that pass through the media. By using a dilute feed and additional spray water, Dewatering Screens can achieve some degree of limited fine sizing. These screens are effective for fine sizing at or above 10 mesh (2 mm), stone washing and rinsing aggregates less than 2 inches (50 mm) before loadout, desliming, and trash/organics dewatering screening.
